White Country Kitchen Remodel

When I pull out my portfolio to review with prospective clients, the photos of this white country kitchen remodel project draws a lot of interest. It is clean, well-lit, and is just beautiful.

There are so many details to this kitchen, which is probably why it is so popular. When we started on this project the kitchen was about two-thirds its current size and included a side laundry room. The homeowner hired a designer to create a new plan for the heart of their home.

The designer drew a plan to enlarge the kitchen and move the laundry room. The plan also included bringing in details from other areas of the house – such as the wood ceilings.

We started by tearing down the wall between the laundry room and kitchen and reframing an exterior wall to add additional windows. The new windows increase the natural light but also contribute to the country style.

Custom cabinets were designed and installed. They include inset doors with applied moulding with a white lacquer finish. The glass-front cabinets in the upper areas create a focal point and contribute to the open feel of this kitchen. The cabinetry included the cutout for the installation of the farm style sink, positioned in front of one of the new windows. The countertops are statuary white marble, which is similar to carrera marble, but with fewer veins.

We also installed a Viking range hood liner that was trimmed out with a custom wood cabinet. The backsplash is tiled with white 6×6 Ann Sacks tile with decorative fleur de lis. The cutting boards on each end of the range, as well as the butler’s pantry countertop, were made from alder wood and finished with Emmet’s Good Stuff wood finish.

custom-kitchen-seatingA custom kitchen seating area was created for the family. The table was made from teak wood and the seating has hidden storage drawers. If you look closely you many notice that the wall behind the seating is made out of ½” cork, allowing a place to proudly display the kids artwork and school papers.

A double pocket door was added between the kitchen and the formal dining room. And the flooring installed is 5” white oak, hand scraped onsite.

But it is all of the lighting that really makes this kitchen look so good. The recessed lighting throughout the kitchen along with the natural light from the new windows are great, but when you add the under cabinet lighting, in cabinet lighting, and above cabinet lighting all the details and beauty come to life.

What is it about this kitchen that you like the most?

Would really like (need) a kitchen table seating area like you have here – how did you go about that? Was it something you bought or built?

    • Ashley,
The seating area in the White kitchen is custom made for that client. The corner bench is wood with a white lacquer finish. The table is solid Teak with the base turned on a lathe machine to create the round shape. Real on-site hand scraped hardwood floors underneath contrast well with the white cabinets.
